About xRead
xRead is dedicated to making academic research easier, faster, and smarter. Our mission is to empower students, researchers, and professionals with AI-driven tools for citation extraction, validation, and summarization right where they do their work.
Our Mission
We believe that high-quality research should be accessible and manageable for everyone. Reading through long reference sections or verifying every inline citation breaks flow. xRead leverages the latest in AI and natural language processing to help you organize, understand, and authenticate your academic sources seamlessly.
Our Team
xRead is built by a passionate team of researchers, developers, and educators who understand the real-world challenges of academic work. We are deeply committed to transparency, privacy, and continuous improvement shaped by user feedback.
Technology
xRead integrates with AI models (for example Google Gemini on our backend today) and scholarly services such as OpenAlex, and where configured Semantic Scholar and SerpAPI, to retrieve metadata and verify citations. The Microsoft Word add-in loads its task pane from xread.io and reads the active document only in Word. The Chrome extension uses a side panel and optional context menus; it requests broad site access because academic work happens on many different domains (LMS pages, publisher sites, and so on). Text is sent to our API only when you invoke a feature, not silently in the background.
Installing xRead
Chrome extension: Install xRead – Review Assistant from the Chrome Web Store. After installation, sign in if you use account features (library, rubrics, grading tools). The extension can run on any website you visit; use it only on pages you are allowed to process under your school or employer policy.
Microsoft Word: We are not promoting a public “Add to Word” install from this site yet. The add-in UI is still hosted under https://www.xread.io/dist/ for organizations that centrally deploy Office add-ins; if that applies to you, ask IT or Support for manifest-based deployment. A simpler consumer Word path will be linked here when it is ready.
